On 11-14 June, the fifth Opencast Mining Academy took place in Zakopane. This year’s meeting was particularly special for us. During the conference, Dr Tomasz Będkowski, Eng., President of the Management Board of WKG Spółka z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością sp.k., was appointed a member of the Mining Technology Section of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) Mining Committee.
The Opencast Mining Academy is a periodic event organised by AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, dedicated to the issue of opencast mining exploitation, drawing from the experience of the largest companies from the sector. At this year’s meeting, attended by professionals from the mining sector and the scientific community, a range of various issues was discussed, including issues related to the future of mining in Poland and the world, the latest technologies of mineral processing, threats and safety of mining operations.
One of the most important items on the agenda were appointments to the Mining Technology Section of the (PAN) Mining Committee. Dr Tomasz Będkowski, Eng., joined the expert team responsible for, among others, cooperation with international organisations and associations, issue of opinions, evaluations, expert reports, scientific forecasts concerning mining sciences and related disciplines.
– Joining such a respected group of experts is a great honour to me, which motivates me even more to work hard and pursue further development. At the same time, it is a huge opportunity to exchange experience and knowledge with other members of the Committee. It is also an acknowledgment of many years of my work and effort – said Tomasz Będkowski.
